In the novel Destination Unknown, Jeanne Maricot is a French woman who was staying in the St. Louis Hotel in Casablanca. She met two other guests, the American tourist Mrs Calvin Baker and the Englishwoman Janet Hetherington. Jeanne did not, however, socialise with them. According to the text, "She was contemplating an important change in her sex life and had no interest to spare for these animals of tourists!"
Jeanne Maricot was described as "a brunette dyed blonde, with a plain but excitingly made-up face" who wore fashionable clothes.
