In the novel The Pale Horse, Jean Paul Marigot was mentioned by Zachariah Osborne. Mr Marigot was accused of having murdered his English wife as Mr Osborne's father, also a pharmacist, gave evidence at the trial. Marigot had bought arsenic under a false name. He was convicted and sentenced to be hanged.
