In the short story Within a Wall, Jane Haworth was a friend of Alan Everard and Isobel Loring. She was the godmother of their daughter Winnie. Miss Haworth lived in a flat in Battersea, overlooking Battersea Park.
Despite not having much money she regularly send money to Isobel, in guise of being the godmother of Winnie. In reality she was in love with Alan, and wanted him to be able to live his dream as an artist.
