James P. Cavanagh (1922-1971) was an American screenwriter active in the 1950s and 1960s and best known for his work on suspense thrillers. His credits include an episode of "Boris Karloff Presents" and 15 episodes of "Alfred Hitcock Presents. In 1963 he wrote the screenplay for the 1963 Margaret Rutherford film Murder at the Gallop.

Cavanagh was born on March 17, 1922 in New York City and died on September 25, 1971 in Los Angeles.
