In the short story How Does Your Garden Grow? Inspector Sims was the police inspector of Charman's Green responsible for investigating the death of Amelia Barrowby. He welcomed Poirot's assistance and provided him with background about Amelia's family affairs.
Inspector Sims is not featured in the film adaptation of the story which was an episode in series 3 of ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot drama series. Chief Inspector Japp handled the investigations. In the episode, many of Sim's lines were given to the non-canonical character Dr Sims, the local doctor who attended to Amelia Barrowby. He provided Japp and Poirot with background information about Amelia's family in the same way as the policeman did for Poirot in the original story.
