In the novel 4.50 from Paddington, Inspector Bacon is a Police Officer. When a woman's body is found in the Long Barn at Rutherford Hall, he is called in to investigate. He is described as a "big stolid man".

Inspector Bacon reports to the Chief Constable that the woman was not a local, and that there is reason to believe, from her underclothing, that she might have been a foreigner. Therefore, the Chief Constable decides to call in Scotland Yard. Inspector Craddock is sent from Scotland Yard to investigate the case, and Inspector Bacon works with him.

Portrayals[]

In the 1961 adaptation, Inspector Bacon becomes Sergeant Bacon and works with Inspector Craddock. Bacon was portrayed by actor Gordon Harris and also appeared in Murder at the Gallop (1963).

Inspector Bacon does not appear in BBC's 1987 adaptation of 4.50 from Paddington, as his place is taken by the recurrent character of Inspector Slack.

In NHK's anime adaptation 4:50 from Paddington, Inspector Bacon is portrayed faithfully and drawn as a "big stolid man". The voice actor for the role is not credited.
