In the novel By the Pricking of My Thumbs, House by a Canal is a painting by William Boscowan. It depictures the Canal House. According to his wife, someone had made alterations to the painting.
The painting was given to Ada Fanshawe by a Mrs Lancaster, when the latter left Sunny Ridge retirement home. After the death of Ada Fanshawe, the painting ended up with her nephew and his wife.
