In Shi to no Yakusoku, the 2021 Fuji TV Japanese adaptation of Appointment with Death, Hondo Mondo is the parallel character of Raymond Boynton.

Like all the other characters in this adaptation, the portrayal is very close to the original novel. Mondo is perhaps a little more under the thumb of his mother Mrs Hondo than Raymond in the original novel. Mondo is constantly at his mother's side, He is the first person she turns to when she wants anything and he is made to do things like fetch her a glass of water or say "please" when offering it to her.

Like in the original, Mondo meets his sister Hondo Kyoko (Carol Boynton) on a balcony and he tells her that their mother has to be killed--a conversation overheard by Suguro Takeru (Poirot). Like in the original, his plan was to inject air from an empty syringe into a vein.

Like in the original, when Mondo discovers Mrs Hondo dead, he thought his sister Kyoko had done it and lied about the time to protect her.

The progress of Mondo's relationship with Sara Kinuko (Sarah King) also tracks closely with the original and he ends up with her at the end.

Hondo Mondo is portrayed by Ichihara Hayato.
