In Shi to no Yakusoku, the 2021 Fuji TV Japanese adaptation of Appointment with Death, Hondo Kyoko is the parallel character of Carol Boynton.

Like all the other characters in this adaptation, the portrayal is very close to the original novel. Kyoko was on the balcony with her brother Hondo Mondo (Raymond Boynton) when he mentions that their mother Mrs Hondo needs to be killed, a conversation overheard by Suguro Takeru (Poirot).

Like Carol, Kyodo befriends Sara Kinuko (Sarah King). They meet in Sara's room where she tells Sara about her family and makes her apologies for her brother's behaviour. When Kyoko discovers Mrs Hondo dead, she thought her brother Mondo had carried out his plan and lied about the time of death to protect him. She also found a hypodermic syringe in her brother's possession and she took it to bury it but was caught by the police.

Like the original Carol, she is exonerated by Suguru who reasons that none of the family needed to resort to a stolen syringe when Hondo Nagiko (Nadine Boynton) had one ready to hand, nor did they need to take the risk of killing their mother while on holiday, or even by means of an injection. Everything could have been done much more easily at home.

Unlike the original Carol Boynton who ends up with Jefferson Cope, Kyoko does not end up with anybody in this adaptation.

Hondo Kyoko is portrayed by Hotta Mayu.
