In the short story The Case of the Missing Lady, the Honourable Hermione Leigh Gordon (née Crane) is the fiancee of the noted explorer Gabriel Stavansson. She became engaged to Stavansson some two years before the events in the story. Stavansson offered to put off an artuc expedition that he was about to undertake but Hermione insisted that he went ahead with his plans. However when Stavansson returns two years later, he has trouble locating Hermione. Worried that something has gone wrong, he approaches the The International Detective Agency for help.
Hermione is the second daughter of Lord Lanchester. She was formerly married to one Maurice Leigh Gordon, but he had been killed during the First World War.
