In the novel Sad Cypress, Henry Welman was the husband of Laura Welman, and the uncle of Roddy Welman.
Henry died long before the events of the novel, and so does not appear in person. According to Roddy, he was "comfortably off" when he married his wife, and when he died, he left all he had to her.
According to Mrs Welman, Henry was "very reserved and fastidious". They had only been married for five years when he died of double pneumonia. Although their marriage was short, they had been very happy together.
