In the novel The Clocks, Henry Montresor was the Canadian great-uncle of Valerie Bland. He died eighteen months pevious and left his entire fortune to his only living relative Valerie who had married and settled in England. A family friend of the Montresors, Quentin Duguesclin, later decided to travel to England and look up Valerie, thus setting in motion one of the major plot lines in the novel.
