In the novel Dead Man's Folly, Henden is the butler at Nasse House. He is described as a tall man with black hair. Poirot thought of him as "the dark-haired artist with the gong stick" because of the skilful way in which he sounded the dinner gong which Poirot felt was a "most artistic performance" with "crescendo, forte, diminuendo, rallentando". After the murder of Marlene Tucker, Poirot added him to his list of suspects, but only because Ariadne Oliver's murder hunt game had featured a sinister butler named "Quiett" and Ariadne had felt that her game was being parallel in real life.
