In the novel The Seven Dials Mystery, Helen is one of three girls who are guests of the Cootes at a house party at Chimneys. Neither she nor another girl Nancy seem to make much of an impression on the young men present. As the text records, when one of them speaks, the men note that the speaker is "Helen (or possibly Nancy)". Jimmy Thesiger does notice, however, that Helen appears to be the one who giggles the most. Helen takes part with the other young guests in a prank which they play on Gerald Wade.
