In the novel A Murder is Announced, Harry Haymes is the son of Phillipa Haymes. He is about eight years old and goes to a prep school but comes to Chipping Cleghorn to be with his mother during the school holidays. Phillipa came to the village to live with Letitia Blacklock and took a job there because she was concerned about having enough money for Harry's education.

In the BBC 1985 adaptation of the novel which formed part of the Miss Marple series, Phillipa's son does appear in the wedding scene at the end of the show. However the character, who has no speaking part, is not named and is not credited.
In the ITV 2005 adaptation of the novel, Phillipa's son also appears but is also uncredited. Here his first name is Edward and he goes to school at Medenham Wells. Edward does not have a speaking part in the film.
