In the novel Murder is Easy, Henry “Harry” Carter was the landlord of the Seven Stars in Wychwood under Ashe and a drunkard. He died after being pushed from a bridge, whilst drunk, yet another of a string of recent deaths in the village. Just a week before his death, there had been "sharp words" between Carter and the village solicitor Mr Abbot, though the abuse, shouting and swearing was mostly on Carter's part. Village gossip was that this had to do with Carter's daughter Lucy.
