In Mademoiselle Mac Ginty est morte, the France Televisions adaptation of Mrs McGinty's Dead, Hélène Schmit is the parallel of Eve Carpenter from the original novel. Hélène is a resident of a second floor unit at 27 Victor Hugo Boulevard, a block of apartments in Lille where most of the action in the episode takes place. Hélène is portrayed by Jeanne Bournaud.

In this adaptation, all the killings took place within a single block of apartments rather than in a village. The murder victim Huguette Mac Ginty lived on the ground floor and did cleaning jobs for a number of other residents including Hélène. Unlike Eve Carpenter, Hélène is not married. She is the fiancee of a French member of parliament who is 20 years older than her, but she does not have a dark secret to hide, although commissaire Laurence considered her a possible match for Lili Lanvin. Annoyed by Laurence's questions, Hélène does, however, use her connections to have the case transferred to Paris along with the current suspects Robert Vasseur and Alice Avril, putting time pressure on the Lille police to solve the case.
