In the short story The Lernean Hydra, Gladys was the maid of Miss Leatheran of Market Loughborough. She, like many others in the village of Market Loughborough, believed there had been foul play behind the death of Mrs Oldfield. When Poirot came to make inquiries, Gladys pointed out two people as usful people to asked for information: Beatrice King, a former maid of the Oldfields, and Nurse Harrison, who was Mrs Oldfield's nurse.
