In the short story The Man in the Mist, Gilda Glen was a beautiful and talented stage actress whom Tommy and Tuppence met at the Grand Hotel in Adlington. Both Tommy and Tuppence were delighted to meet her as they were fans of her. They had seen her many times in her various plays some well known ones of which were The Secret of the Heart and Pillars of Fire.
Gilda was described as a "tall, slender creature, with very golden hair and very round blue eyes, almost impossibly beautiful...." Indeed she was reputed to be the most beautiful woman in England. But there was also a rumour that she was the stupidest.
After meeting Tommy and Tuppence, Gilda sent a note asking them to call on her at her home at the White House on Morgan's Avenue. She said that she believed they might be able to help her.
Tommy and Tuppence proceed to the house, only to discover that she had been killed with a blow on the head. It was not exactly clear why she asked to see the Beresfords. However, Mrs Honeycott, who lived at the White House, and who turned out to be her elder sister, told the Beresfords that Gilda wanted a divorce from her estranged husband, so she could marry Lord Leconbury.
