George Lorrimer exposed

George Lorrimer is the nephew of Henry and Anthony Gascoigne. When he heard that his uncle Anthony was dying or had died, he knew that Anthony's brother Henry would be next in line to inherit his estate. Lorrimer thus murdered Henry so that the wealth would come to him sooner. After the murder, Lorrimer planted a letter with an altered date and then appeared at Henry's regular restaurant disguised as his uncle in order to fake a later time of death and create an alibi for himself. At the supposed time of Henry's death, Lorrimer able to state that he was playing cards at Wimbledon. Lorrimer ultimately failed because while he emulated Henry's appearance, he failed to emulate Henry's eating habits.

George Lorrimer is played by Richard Howard in the film adaptation of the story in episode 4 of Series 1 of ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot drama series. In the original story, Lorrimer was a doctor with a clinic in Wimbledon. In the film, he became a theatre manager. Presumably this provided some background to explain the skill with which he disguised himself as Henry.
