In the novel Why Didn't They Ask Evans?, George Arbuthnot is a physician and a friend of Lady Frances Derwent. He helps her when she stages a car crash in order to gain access to the Bassington-ffrench estate at Merroway Court. After Frankie apparently crashes her car near the gates of the estate, Arbuthnot stops to "help". He gets assistance from the estate and carries Frankie in, gives her an "examination" and then arranges for her to stay there to recover for a day or two.

Les Petits Meurtres d'Agatha Christie[]

In Pourquoi pas Martin?, the France Télévisions adaptation of the novel for the TV series Les Petits Meurtres d'Agatha Christie, Arbuthnot's role is assumed by commissaire Swan Laurence. Despite his better judgment, he agrees to Alice Avril's crazy scheme to stage a car accident. He then carries her into the chateau of the Delavallée family.
