In the novel Nemesis, Geoffrey Grant is a young man and resident of Jocelyn St. Mary. After the disappearance of Verity Hunt and the subsequent discovery of her body, Geoffrey became a suspect and was called up by the police for questioning.
According to Mrs Merrypit, the police was quite sure it was Geoffrey at first. Mrs Merrypit thought that he was "always a bit queer" even as a young boy. He used to interfere with little girls going to school and offer them sweets and "get them to come down the lanes with him and see the primroses, or something like that." Like many of the young men questioned by the police, he was unemployed. The police eventually concluded that it wasn't Geoffrey.
