General Pereira is a non-canonical character who was created for the film adaptation of Yellow Iris in Series 5 of ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot. Pereira was a general in the Argentine army. On the eve of a military coup, Stephen Carter and Barton Russell approached Pereira and bribed him to obtain a concession for an oil strike in Santa Cruz in the south of Argentina. This concession was confirmed when Pereira became Minister of Oil after the successful coup. Pereira also had Poirot deported from Argentina. Pereira had probably been acting at the suggestion of Stephen Carter. Carter had been concerned about Poirot's presence in Buenos Aires. His snooping around might uncover too much.

Subsequently, Pereira was executed by the Argentine military. He had, it would appear, been "caught with his hand in the till once too often".

General Pereira is played by Stefan Gryff. This character does not occur in the original story.
