In the novel Mrs McGinty's Dead, Frieda was the German domestic help of the Wetherbys at Hunter's Close in Broadhinny. While Poirot was visiting the village, Frieda decided to leave her position after having worked for the family for only a month. According to Deirdre Henderson, Frieda had taken the job simply as a means of coming over to England. Her intention was actually to marry someone in the country. Once the arrangements had been made, she decided to pack up and go. Although her sudden departure was inconvenient for the family, it gave Poirot an opportunity to insert Maude Williams to pose as a domestic help in order to learn more about the residents at Hunter's Close.

The Wetherbys are not featured in the 2008 ITV TV adaptation of the novel, so the character of Frieda is also omitted.
