In the novel The Moving Finger, Fred Rendell was the boyfriend of Agnes Woddell. He had an argument with Agnes after he received an anonymous letter, stating that Agnes had affairs with other boys. Agnes was angry and wanted him to apologize for believing the rumors. However, Fred never came to appologize as Agnes was murdered before that. Fred worked at the local fish shop.

Portrayals[]

Fred Rendell does not feature in the BBC 1985 adaptation of the novel. Her role is taken over by Beatrice Dunn.

In the ITV 2006 adaptation of the novel (Episode 2, Series of Agatha Christie's Marple), the character name is changed to "Fred Furbank". There is a flashback showing Agnes quarrelling with Fred but he doesn't have any lines and the actor who played him is not credited. In the background is a sign saying "Fred's Fish", which suggests that he owned the fish shop.
