In the novel By the Pricking of My Thumbs, Farmer Hart is a farmer near Sutton Chancellor. Some fifteen years before the events in the book, the artist William Boscowan came down to Sutton Chancellor and liked the place. He rented one of Hart's cottages which he had kept for his farm labourers.
