In the novel One, Two, Buckle My Shoe, Exsham is the name of Alistair Blunt's country house in Kent. He and his family typically spent weekends there. On weekdays, he would stay at a building known as the "Gothic House" located on the Chelsea Embankment. He also had another country house in Norfolk.
Helen Montressor, a second cousin of Blunt's and his only living relative had been left badly off. Blunt allowed her to stay in a cottage on the Exsham grounds free of rent. She actively helped in maintaining the gardens of Exsham. Gardening was also a hobby of Blunt.
