In the novel Dead Man's Folly, the Espérance is the yacht belonging to Etienne de Sousa. It was moored at Helmmouth and Mr de Sousa travelled it the River Helm to Nasse House in a smaller boat.
According to Inspector Bland, the Espérance is very fancy, very smart, newly painted, and has luxury fittings.
