In The Witness for the Prosecution, Emily French is younger and far more sexually active than in any other version. A sexually charged war widow, she goes out despite the objections of her maid, Janet McIntyre, who has an unhealthily close interest in her employer's personal life. She goes to a club filled with gigolos and staffed by waiters. She is attracted to Leonard Vole, one of the latter, who is fired after dropping a tray of cocktails. She takes him home with her. Despite McIntyre trying to put off Vole, French spoils him with new clothes and gifts which he repays sexually, McIntyre watches them make love but when she finds out about Romaine, she confronts Emily with it and French refuses to believe it. She had changed her will at this point and believed Janet wanted to get rid of Vole. When Janet left on her night out, French was later found beaten to death with a brass lamp. Vole was arrested based on McIntyre's evidence but acquitted in court after the prosecution case fell apart. In the new ending, the troubled but innocent Janet is found guilty and hanged.
Emily French was played by Kim Cattrall.
