In the short story Swan Song, Emile Lippi is an operatic singer who is scheduled to sing with Paula Nazorkoff as "Scarpia" during a performance of Tosca at Covent Garden. Nazorkoff dislikes the idea and tells her manager Mr Cowan that she refuses to sing with him. She says that Lippi is a "hideous little barking frog".
