In the short story The Man in the Mist, Ellen is the maid of Mrs Honeycott at the White House, Morgan's Avenue, Adlington. She was in the kitchen when Gilda Glen was murdered in her room. She told Tommy that nobody had come all day looking for Gilda. She had gone upstairs just around six or a few minutes after six to draw the curtains.
