In the novel The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Miss Elizabeth Russell is Roger Ackroyd's housekeeper. She is described as a woman with "dark hair unstreaked with grey, and when she had a colour, the stern quality of her looks was not so apparent". According to Caroline Sheppard, she tried to marry Roger.
If Roger died, she would receive a thousand pounds.
Role in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd[]
When Dr Sheppard was leaving Roger Ackroyd's house, he encountered a mysterious person at the gates. This person was actually M. Russell's illegitimate son, Charles Kent, a drug addict recently arrived from Canada. That morning Miss Russell had indirectly asked Sheppard if there was a way to stop being an addict. However, Dr Sheppard thought she was interested on toxins and poisons.
Portrayals[]
The characters of Miss Russell and her son are omitted in Agatha Christie's Poirot.
She was voiced by Eva Stuart in the BBC Radio 4 adaptation of the novel.
