In the short story Wireless, Elizabeth Marshall is the long-serving and loyal maid of the elderly Mary Harter. At first Mary had arranged in her will to leave Elizabeth 50 pounds after her death. Later Mary decided that, because of Elizabeth's long and faithful service, she should get one hundred pounds instead. As she feared there may not be enough time to change the will, Mary went to the bank and withdraw 50 pounds to pay her in cash.
Elizabeth is described as a "tall gaunt woman of sixty". She has a lot of affection for her mistress and would be highly affected and tearful whenever she starts talking about her impending death.
