Egan was a non-canonical character who was created for the film adaptation of The Kidnapped Prime Minister in Season 2 of ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot. Egan was the driver of the Prime Minister's car. Although he was praised for his quick thinking in saving the Prime Minister's life during a shooting incident on the road to Windsor, Poirot found out later that the event had been staged. Egan was an Irish nationalist and was in league with Commander Daniels and Imogen Daniels to kidnap the Prime Minister. Poirot's first suspicion that this was so was when he looked under the letter "X" in Egan's phone book. There was a Mayfair number without a name which Poirot later confirmed was Commander Daniels' number.

Egan was played in the film by Jack Elliot. Unlike the driver O'Murphy in the original story, Egan was not a C.I.D. man. He came from Country Clare and had worked as a driver in a removals company before working as a government driver.
