In the novel The Body in the Library, Edwards is the valet of Conway Jefferson. He knows his master better than anyone else does, as other people see only Conway's strength, but Edwards has seen his weakness. He has seen Conway "tired, discouraged, weary of life, momentarily defeated by infirmity and loneliness".

In BBC 1984 adaptation of the novel which formed part of the Miss Marple series, Edwards is played by John Moffatt.
In the ITV 2004 adaptation of the novel (Episode 1, Season 1 of Agatha Christie's Marple), Edwards is played by Giles Oldershaw.
