In the short story The Apples of the Hesperides, Dublay is a member of an international gang of jewel thieves. French by nationality, Dublay was the brains of his gang and planned most of their robberies. He was arrested along with his partner Riccovetti shortly after the theft of a renaissance era golden goblet from the palace of the Marchese di San Veratrino and subsequently convicted. Other items of lesser value were found on him and on Riccovetti, but not the goblet. It was assumed that Patrick Casey, a gang member who remained at large, had managed to hide it.
