In the novel Crooked House, Dr Gray is a physician in Swinly Dean. Early in the investigation, Chief Inspector Taverner turns down an invitation to lunch with the family at Three Gables because he is meeting Dr Gray. There is no context to this but presumably he is the doctor who was summoned when Aristide Leonides was taken ill or the doctor who examined him after he died. Earlier in the novel, an unnamed doctor had examined the body and refused to issue a death certificate and wanted a post-mortem.

Later in the story, Dr Gray is called when Josephine Leonides is injured by a marble door stop. He has her sent to Market Basing General Hospital and continues to look after her as she recovered.
