In the novel Murder on the Links, Dr Durand is a local doctor and police surgeon in Merlinville. He is called to examine the body found on the golf course and concludes that death occured between midnight and 3 a.m.

Later a second body is discovered. At first Monsieur Giraud believes the man has died 24 hours ago, timing it by the presumed time of the theft of the dagger which he knew about. However, Durand examines the body and concludes that death occured more than 48 hours earlier if not more. When Poirot notices foam on the lips of the dead man, he opines that the man died of natural causes, from an epileptic fit and was then stabbed after he died. Durand examines the body closely and agrees with Poirot.
