In the novel Dead Man's Folly, Dr Cook is the police surgeon linked to the police station at Helmmouth. He examined the body of Marlene Tucker and determined that death occured between four and quarter to five in the afternoon. That, and Amanda Brewis's assertion that she brought drinks and snacks to Marlene and she was alive at quarter past four, narrowed the time of death to a half hour.
