In the authorised Miss Marple continuation short story The Open Mind, Dr Agnetha Strom is a fellow St Bede's College, Oxford, specialising either in politics or philosophy (she mentions Schopenhauer at one point).

Like many of the other fellows of the college, Dr Strom bears a grudge against the Master Professor Cuthbert Cayling. In her case it is because he took her place (she had been indisposed) on a TV discussion with Huw Wheldon, an event which somehow turned Cayling into an academic celebrity. He had since appeared on many discussion programmes on TV. Strom is also angry with Cayling over his treatment of a friend of hers, a female research student named Harrison whom Cayling took advantage of.
