In the novel The Hollow, Dovecotes is a cottage near The Hollow and the neighbour of Resthaven, a holiday cottage which Poirot had purchased. Dovecotes and Resthaven were buildings erected by competing builders and represented rival architectural styles. While Resthaven was square like a box (to Poirot's taste), Dovecotes was "a riot of half-timbering and Olde Worlde packed into as small a space as possible.
During the events in the book, Veronica Cray had rented Dovecotes and was staying there.
