In the novel Elephants Can Remember, Dorothea “Dolly” Jarrow (née Preston-Grey) was the identical twin sister of Margaret Ravenscroft. She married Captain Jarrow and they had two children, a girl and a boy. The boy drowned, and Dr Willoughby Senior suspected that Dolly had caused the boy's death.

After being treated in a mental institution after the death of a child, that she might have caused, she was considered to be cured. After that she often went to India to stay with her sister and her brother-in-law. While she was there an accident involving the child of a neighbour occurred. Although there were no evidence, it was suspected that Dorothea was responsible for what had happened. She was sent back to England, to once again be treated in a mental institution. When the Ravenscrofts returned from India, Mrs Ravenscroft thought it would be best if her sister came and lived with them. Some time later all three of them were dead.
