In the short story The Dead Harlequin, Dick Charnley is the son of Lord and Lady Charnley. He was born several months after the death of his father. At the time of the events in the story, Dick is a pupil at Eton. According to his mother, Dick has always asked her to reopen and to go back to live at their country house at Charnley.
