In the ITV 2009 adaptation of the novel as part of their Agatha Christie's Marple series, Sergeant Lake is played by Sean Hughes. He is tasked with running from the spot where Johnnie Restarick was standing on the night of the murder, to the house, while Inspector Curry times him. This is to see how long it would have taken Johnnie to run to the house, murder Christian Gulbrandsen, and then make his appearance in the drawing room of Stonygates. In the book, it is Police Constable Dodgett who does the running.
