In the authorised Miss Marple continuation short story The Murdering Sort, Detective Laura Wilcox is the officer of the Chatham Police Department assigned to investigate the death of the wealthy American tycoon Josiah Westover.
Wilcox is at first sceptical and dismissive about consulting Miss Marple about the case but a few days later her attitude changed and she became deferential and respectful. It seemed she had told her boss about Miss Marple and her boss recognised the name because he had been to a police conventional in New York. Dermot Craddock had been a featured speaker and he had spoken about her. Wilcox's boss had instructed her to provide Miss Marple with whatever information she wanted about the case.
