In the Harley Quin short story The Sign in the Sky, Deering Hill is the residence of Sir George Barnaby in the village of Deering Vale near London.
According to Mr Satterthwaite, it is a house of ordinary design, not very large, standing in about two acres of ground near the golf links. Made of red brick with bay windows, it looked hideous on the outside but was actually very comfortable inside. The bedrooms are reminiscent of hotel suites, each with baths and many modern conveniences. In Mr Satterthwaite's opinion, very comfortable but not very countrylike.
