In Mademoiselle Mac Ginty est morte, the France Televisions adaptation of Mrs McGinty's Dead, Deborah Santini is wife of Leopold Santini and the the parallel of Sheelagh Rendell from the original novel. Her family are residents of a first floor unit at 27 Victor Hugo Boulevard, a block of apartments in Lille where most of the action in the episode takes place. Deborah Santini is portrayed by Annette Lowcay.
In the course of the investigations into the murder of Huguette Mac Ginty, commissaire Laurence considered Deborah to be a good match for a murderess Eva Mauduis who had disappeared more than 20 years previously. Deborah told Laurence that her family had only just moved to the building 6 months ago. She had spent more than 20 years in Vienna and had met her husband there. For some reason, her husband Leopold reacted when commissaire Laurence asked about Deborah's maiden name. After blurting out that it was "Delaunois", when Laurence asked if he was sure, Leopold terminated the interview abruptly. He also strongly asserted that there were no photos of his wife from 20 years ago because they had lost everything when they moved. Moreover, the Santini's had a young daughter Beatrice. Alice Avril's research had uncovered the fact that at the time of her disappearance, Eva Mauduis had given birth to a daughter. The profile seemed to match.
It was only later that Alice discovered that she had made a mistake. Eva Mauduis had a son and not a daughter. Leopold and his wife were evasive about their backgrounds for a different reason: their daughter Beatrice was a schizophrenic.
