In the Tommy and Tuppence novel The Secret Adversary, Danvers was a special messenger entrusted with carrying a secret treaty from America to England during the First World War. However the ship he was travelling on, the Lusitania was struck by a torpedo and sank. Danvers was listed among the missing and his body was later washed up on shore and identified. British authorities believed that Danvers could well have destroyed the treaty. But during the last moments before the lifeboats were launched, Danvers was seen speaking to a young American woman, Jane Finn and he could well have given the papers to her. Finding Jane Finn became a major part of the plot of the novel.
