Daisy Armstrong is a character from the 1934 mystery novel Murder on the Orient Express. She was the daughter of Colonel Armstrong and his wife Sonia. She was a much beloved child, adored by the Armstrong household. However, when she was three-years-old, Daisy was kidnapped by an American gangster named Cassetti who demanded ransom for her release. However, once the money was given, it was revealed he had already killed the child.

Background[]

Daisy Armstrong he daughter of distinguished British Army officer John Armstrong and his American wife Sonia. She was known to be a sweet, happy child, with lovely curly hair. She was adored by the entire household, including the servants.

One night, an American gangster named Cassetti kidnapped the young child. He demanded a hefty ransom for her release, but once it was paid, it was discovered that Cassetti had already killed the child.

Upon hearing the news, Sonia, who was pregnant, went into premature labor and died, along with the infant. The grief stricken Colonel Armstrong shot himself afterwards. Daisy's French nursemaid, Susanne, was accused of aiding Cassetti and killed herself, only to be found innocent afterwards. Cassetti escaped justice through corruption and legal technicalities, and fled the country.

Daisy does not appear in person in this adaptation, but she is seen in a photograph and in old videos. She was described in some news footage as a vivacious and enchanting child. Unlike the novel, in this adaptation she is seven years old when she is kidnapped and killed.

In the 2017 version of Murder on the Orient Express, Daisy was three years old when she was kidnapped. Though she does not appear in any way in film she is mentioned by name many times throughout and plays a large part in the story of the film.
