Cutter was a pathologist working for Scotland Yard. He examined the body of Henry Gascoigne and briefed Poirot on his findings. He also gave Poirot a letter found on the body of Henry Gascoigne. From this, Scotland Yard was able to time his death because the letter had arrived by the 9.30 evening post.

Cutter was created for the TV adaptation of Four and Twenty Blackbirds in ITV's Agatha Christie's Poirot and does not appear in the original story. Cutter was played in the film by Philip Locke.
